Smoke And Mirrors

I probably don’t mean to imply deception as mentioned in the Wikipedia entry for Smoke and Mirrors, but it seemed a good metaphor for the topic at hand – LinkedIn’s “Updated” look.

LinkedIn has revamped the home page in an attempt to look better / cooler.

Is it better – sure. Is it the greatest thing since sliced bread? Probably not…

I’ll guess that the optimists will say that it means things are headed in a good direction, pessimists will pick out the less-than-stellar buying expectations. I’m going to hedge and say readers of The LinkedIn Personal Trainer have gone pragmatic;-)

Until I read your posts I just asked people to join me a bit ad hoc. … [So I was interested in] an article on how to rectify the mistakes if you are already on LinkedIn and have “farmed” contacts?

I’ve implied some things about that sort of situation over the years, but it sounds like a great topic for today.

May’s LinkedIn poll reveals that while LinkedIn maintains a strong presence among job seekers, two out of three users are not using the site for that purpose.

It further emphasizes the polarity discovered in December of 2010 – either you’re job searching or you’re not.
