It’s the classic opening from an individual who wants to meet someone.
“Use LinkedIn” comes to my mind immediately.
And here’s what I do when I hear or read that phrase…
LinkedIn tells me…
Yup – it’s that easy.
I pull up my LinkedIn browser tab and search – for the company, organization or individual mentioned. Nine times out of ten, I identify the right individual if the other person has not already narrowed it down to one person.
And half of the time I know someone that knows this person. A third I know someone that knows someone that knows this person. Some of the time I don’t;-)
Information
And I offer that information back to the asker with the advice “Here’s what you want to know, and if you don’t know anyone who has a better connection to Mary Smith, let me know and I’ll get a hold of my friend Bob who does.”
The asker is usually very appreciative;-)
All by yourself
I’ve gotten some people to do the search before they ask me for advice – but I’m still working on most of the other people.
When it’s a habit it seems simple.
But figuring out how to make it a habit – well, I’m not sure on that, I just know the LinkedIn stuff – behavior modification is something else entirely;-)
Happy searching.
To your continued success,
steve
