Favorite Linked Things

Posted by Steve Tylock on 03 Aug 2010 | Tagged as: About the Service, Connections, Endorsements, Entrepreneurial, Groups, Introductions, Jobs, Profiles, Search, Ways to Use LinkedIn

Here’s a bit of a tribute to LinkedIn for all my readers – I hope you enjoy it!

This thread will also help me start a number of postings over the next few weeks as I cover each of these favorite things – to explain them a little further.

Visiting this site for the first time?

If the video has brought you to The LinkedIn Personal Trainer for the very first time, a bit of an introduction is in order.

Hi – I’m steve!

And I wrote The LinkedIn Personal Trainer as a concise guide to getting started with LinkedIn – and sell it in both paperback and e-book formats.

This site is dedicated to exploring and using LinkedIn as an extension of that book.

Archives

I’ve written nearly 200 additional articles about new features, happenings in the LinkedIn world, and reader questions – and they’re all available to you through the “Archives”, “Categories”, and “Search” sections off in the header or right column.

Reader feedback

I’m always interested in the issues you face and looking for material for articles, so please don’t be a stranger. If you leave a comment, or send me a note, I’ll do my very best to respond quickly.

Like what you read?

And lastly, if you like what you’ve read here, please sign up for the email feed (or RSS if you prefer that) in the top right corner.

When you enter your email address, I’ll give you a short note whenever a new article is posted – so you don’t have to keep checking back.

The email will include the headline and first paragraph of the topic – and if you’re not interested, just delete it and move on.  If the topic is of interest, there will be a link to click over for the full article.

And spread the word

Perhaps the biggest thing you can do to help me, is to spread the word about this site. If you learned something here, recommend the LinkedInPersonalTrainer.com to others.

As always, I remain committed to your continued success,

steve

Working Your Way Through LinkedIn Job Postings

I’m not sure how things are with you, but it looks like a good time to show everyone how to work with the job posting feature on LinkedIn.

The system is very powerful for both the candidate and the employer – and I’ll show you how.

Allow Me To Introduce…

Posted by Steve Tylock on 15 Sep 2009 | Tagged as: Introductions

It happens at in-person networking events all the time, doesn’t it?

You’re standing there talking with Gary when you see Beth walking by – you call out to her, and she stops over.  Hopefully sooner than later you say something like “Gary, you know Beth, don’t you?”  And when you hear that they don’t know each other, you introduce them.

Once in a while you hear that they’ve struck up a great relationship and they thank you for bringing them together.

That’s absolutely how it happens on LinkedIn too – let me show you…

Leveraging LinkedIn for Effective Projects

Posted by Steve Tylock on 03 Jul 2009 | Tagged as: Connections, Endorsements, Etiquette, Groups, Introductions, Profiles, Teleseminars, Ways to Use LinkedIn

I’m really excited about creating this program – The Project Solvers and I have developed a workshop on Thursday July 16th for project teams and managers.

Besides the usual questions about how to use LinkedIn, we’ll show participants a tools set that will allow you to run projects effectively through LinkedIn and a few of the additional applications tied into the service.

How can project members communicate across the team?

Is there a way to share project plans and documents?

Can we get feedback from the development community, or the marketplace?

If our project team is scattered across several companies, cities, and continents, how can we setup an environment that lets us all do what we have to do?

All those questions – and more – will be answering for the workshop participants!

Interested in what Pharmaceutical Executives in Europe think of LinkedIn?  Check out the article by Peter Houston on “Pharmaceutical Executive” [I'll give you a direct link to the article, just read on]

Peter approached me last year and I helped put this together – including a 30 minute LinkedIn “jump start” – look for the sidebar on the second page with a set of tips that work just as well in America;-)

Don’t Send An Invitation When You Want An Introduction!

Posted by Steve Tylock on 24 Nov 2008 | Tagged as: Connections, Etiquette, Introductions, Ways to Use LinkedIn

This topic has come up a couple times when I’ve responded to people I don’t know who have invited me to connect.  My standard reply is “We don’t know each other, but I’m happy to use this opening as the start of a relationship.”

Every once in a while one will write back saying “Oh – I really wanted to get in touch to ask about …”

Customize Your Correspondence For More Success

One of my readers – Tom – shared an interesting statistic with me: the response rate when he sends out InMail.

You see Tom prospects with the help of LinkedIn and has experimented with different approach styles.

It’s a fascinating look at just how important it is to speak (and write) to someone as an individual.

Getting Introduced

Posted by Steve Tylock on 11 Sep 2008 | Tagged as: Etiquette, Introductions, Ways to Use LinkedIn

A reader asks “How do I meet people with LinkedIn?”

While I’m vocal about not “meeting” people with an invitation to connect, the mechanism to meet people through an introduction sometimes gets glossed over.  So I thought it would make a good article…
