How can you get to the top of the list?
That’s a really important place to be isn’t it? The corporate recruiter has only so much time and it’s better to be the first candidate the search returns than the last.
The venture guys are looking for a company within the sustainable agriculture sector to invest in. They’ll take the time to check into the results on the first page. But if you’re on the second page, they might not click over…
Today we’re going to take on the topic of optimizing your profile’s position within search results on LinkedIn. I’ve called it “LinkedIn Profile Search Optimization” because the acronym LIPSO sounds cool…

Let’s talk about search results today – and how you can influence your web site’s search rank through the use of your LinkedIn profile.
This is a bit technical and of importance mostly to those that want to get their web site ranked higher, so I’ll understand if you’re not interested – but if you’ve got a web site, read on…-)

LinkedIn’s “Introduction” feature is key to the service – it lets users reach out to potential customers, employers, employees, partners, and even investors.
This is a great way to turn a cold call into a warm introduction – through a mutually trusted individual.
And while it is possible to ask for introductions to both 2nd and 3rd level connections, it is easier with 2nd – because there is only one individual in the middle that knows both the introducer and the introducee.
LinkedIn opened up a search option to allow users to specify the relationship – and you should do that.
Let me take you through it…

What’s going to be more accurate, John Smith’s LinkedIn profile, or his resume?
Apparently the LinkedIn Profile – let’s have a look.

And I mean this in the nicest way – if the former candidate for Vice President can end up with two profiles on LinkedIn, what chance do you have of avoiding the same fate?
A whole lot – because you’re reading this blog!-)
But seriously folks, let’s have a look…

This wouldn’t be funny if it were the first time it’s happened, but it isn’t – so it is funny!
Redorbit.com has pointed out some information about Microsoft’s plans for Windows 8 & 9 – plans gleaned from the profile of a Microsoft employee on LinkedIn.
Here’s some handy advice so that you can avoid the unlucky position this gentleman is in.

Yesterday’s mailbag included an interesting question from Ray – he’d like to know how to get the logos of his favoite organizations displayed on his profile and was unhappy that he hadn’t been able to figure it out.
I explained that it was a bit like trying to find a strategy for capturing a unicorn – just because you want to do something like that doesn’t mean you can.
But I worked out a good alternative that I’ll share with you.

You know that I’d like you to put the right amount of effort into your LinkedIn experience, craft a great personal brand, and succeed fabulously, right?
In an email exchange with Ryan, he dropped a pair of words that dealt perfectly with the LinkedIn over-achiever – that they had an “agonizingly long” profile…

I’m really excited about creating this program – The Project Solvers and I have developed a workshop on Thursday July 16th for project teams and managers.
Besides the usual questions about how to use LinkedIn, we’ll show participants a tools set that will allow you to run projects effectively through LinkedIn and a few of the additional applications tied into the service.
How can project members communicate across the team?
Is there a way to share project plans and documents?
Can we get feedback from the development community, or the marketplace?
If our project team is scattered across several companies, cities, and continents, how can we setup an environment that lets us all do what we have to do?
All those questions – and more – will be answering for the workshop participants!
