Favorite Linked Things

Posted by Steve Tylock on 03 Aug 2010 | Tagged as: About the Service, Connections, Endorsements, Entrepreneurial, Groups, Introductions, Jobs, Profiles, Search, Ways to Use LinkedIn

Here’s a bit of a tribute to LinkedIn for all my readers – I hope you enjoy it!

This thread will also help me start a number of postings over the next few weeks as I cover each of these favorite things – to explain them a little further.

Visiting this site for the first time?

If the video has brought you to The LinkedIn Personal Trainer for the very first time, a bit of an introduction is in order.

Hi – I’m steve!

And I wrote The LinkedIn Personal Trainer as a concise guide to getting started with LinkedIn – and sell it in both paperback and e-book formats.

This site is dedicated to exploring and using LinkedIn as an extension of that book.

Archives

I’ve written nearly 200 additional articles about new features, happenings in the LinkedIn world, and reader questions – and they’re all available to you through the “Archives”, “Categories”, and “Search” sections off in the header or right column.

Reader feedback

I’m always interested in the issues you face and looking for material for articles, so please don’t be a stranger. If you leave a comment, or send me a note, I’ll do my very best to respond quickly.

Like what you read?

And lastly, if you like what you’ve read here, please sign up for the email feed (or RSS if you prefer that) in the top right corner.

When you enter your email address, I’ll give you a short note whenever a new article is posted – so you don’t have to keep checking back.

The email will include the headline and first paragraph of the topic – and if you’re not interested, just delete it and move on.  If the topic is of interest, there will be a link to click over for the full article.

And spread the word

Perhaps the biggest thing you can do to help me, is to spread the word about this site. If you learned something here, recommend the LinkedInPersonalTrainer.com to others.

As always, I remain committed to your continued success,

steve

Just What Does Your LinkedIn Profile Reveal?

Posted by Steve Tylock on 05 May 2010 | Tagged as: Profiles

April took just about as long to get through as March, and April’s Poll reveals some more information about the readers of this blog.

More than half of my readers (And that’s you because by definition – you are reading this blog right now) are quite mum on extra information in their profile, but as I was working my way through these results I realized I happen to share quite a bit about myself.

I’d make some quip about revealing things, but this is a professional blog and I don’t want anyone to get in trouble for reading the material here…

Exposing LinkedIn Connection Myths – Part II

Posted by Steve Tylock on 15 Apr 2010 | Tagged as: Profiles

People can’t contact you unless your profile includes your email address or phone number.

Yes, that’s where we’re going to start – the reasoning behind including your email address in your profile and more frequently right within the spot your name belongs.

It’s the one aspect of indiscriminately connecting that touches on your profile, so let’s explore…

Publishing Too Soon

Posted by Steve Tylock on 06 Apr 2010 | Tagged as: Profiles, Ways to Use LinkedIn

The LinkedIn Personal Trainer suggests you think twice about “breaking the news” on your profile or through an update.

That is – if it isn’t supposed to be published yet!

It looks like Apple may be buying a company and has not announced it yet, but news is leaking out anyway.  And one of those sources? Individuals at said company saying so on their LinkedIn profiles!

LinkedIn Profile Information Poll Update

Posted by Steve Tylock on 05 Apr 2010 | Tagged as: Profiles

Readers – I’ve updated April’s poll responses to include “none of the above” after realizing that readers couldn’t return a response that says “I don’t include any of those”.

My apologies to those that tried to vote and may have left frustrated.

LinkedIn Completeness – Hockey Stick Results

Posted by Steve Tylock on 02 Apr 2010 | Tagged as: Profiles

March left us all wondering what happened to the month, but poll results show more LinkedIn Personal Trainer readers have a 100% complete profile than any other level!

You heard me – nearly 40% of your fellow readers have a complete profile.

The rest of the values are remarkable similar – and I certainly couldn’t have guessed that.

But wait – there’s more!

Name vs NAME vs name

Posted by Steve Tylock on 10 Mar 2010 | Tagged as: Profiles

Why do some LinkedIn users use nonstandard capitalization?

They stand out – for the wrong reasons…

Let’s talk about this for just a minute.

LinkedIn – From The Outside

Posted by Steve Tylock on 11 Feb 2010 | Tagged as: Profiles, Ways to Use LinkedIn

What threats does LinkedIn pose, and what opportunities would we look at – if we weren’t LinkedIn Insiders?

That’s today’s topic as I step aside for this guest post.

Brenda approached me a while back and asked if I would consider a guest. I agreed, and you’re now the beneficiary of her advice.

LinkedIn Profile Customization

Posted by Steve Tylock on 02 Feb 2010 | Tagged as: Profiles

LinkedIn just released a feature on customizing your profile – you may now alter the default order of the sections.

I’m trying to find a compelling reason to do so or something to say about why this is phenomenal, but I really can’t…

Five LinkedIn Articles From The Archive You Might Have Missed

Posted by Steve Tylock on 28 Jan 2010 | Tagged as: Connections, Endorsements, Profiles

While I published The LinkedIn Personal Trainer in June of 2007, I re-launched this blog in May of 2008 with a new look. It’s worked well, and readership is doing very well.

But most of you weren’t there in 2008;-)

And I wrote some key articles that I keep referring to, and I thought I’d pull out five for you.
