Posted by Steve Tylock on 01 Feb 2009 | Tagged as: Connections, Jobs, Teleseminars, Ways to Use LinkedIn

I had the honor of being the first guest to kick off the podcast program on lipsticking.com with Yvonne DiVita – the podcast has just gone up this weekend.  The site lives at http://www.lipsticking.com/ and has a tagline of “marketing to women online”, and while our talk didn’t go over any special considerations about LinkedIn for women, it was focused on making sure her audience knew about the tool and could start to use it effectively. We spent a short time together, but covered a number of aspects you might be interested in…

After sending off a strongly worded note to a friend yesterday, I realized that the message applies to every business professional – and needed to make it out to the blog.

My friend wanted to help her brother who was just laid off, and was starting to network on his behalf.

The advice was simple – he needs to network at four different levels – and so do you!

Mark asks “should a consultant A) list every client as a ‘position’, or B) include one big position that mentions every client engagement?”

LinkedIn’s Twitter-ish Feature

Posted by Steve Tylock on 29 Oct 2008 | Tagged as: Jobs, Profiles, Ways to Use LinkedIn

I haven’t been a big proponent of this feature in the past, and am changing my tune – update your network through the “what are you working on” feature – to get the word out.

You’ll save time and let people keep up with your recent activities.

When I’m speaking with employment networking groups, I’ll often explain how recruiters use the site – so that the attendees can tune their profile for better results.

LinkedIn Statistics – And Ties To The Credit Crunch

Posted by Steve Tylock on 01 Oct 2008 | Tagged as: About the Service, Jobs, Ways to Use LinkedIn

The Guardian is reporting that those within the financial industry are increasingly LinkedIn.

It seems anti-climactic to think that investment bankers are joining, updating their profiles, and connecting more right now than ever before – but I’m a bit more interested to look inside and see that LinkedIn can identify this activity.

Let’s see what they’re seeing;-)

You jumped into “job search” mode, networked like crazy, met some terrific people, joined LinkedIn, and continued to stay active even when some potential offers appeared imminent.

And landed a great job.

Building Your Network Before You Need It

Posted by Steve Tylock on 24 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: Jobs, Profiles, Ways to Use LinkedIn

Every once in a while I find an individual who’s waiting to start using LinkedIn “when they need it” – hinting that until they’re looking for a job, they don’t need to network in general, or use LinkedIn specifically.

I’m always vocal about their need to get out now – when they don’t “need to” – and here’s why…

Searching for Job Candidates

Posted by Steve Tylock on 01 Jun 2008 | Tagged as: Jobs

JP writes “I am an executive search consultant working exclusively in financial markets. And to be more precise I am looking for people working in commodities: traders, sales, marketers, etc in soft commodities and particularly in Asia  – very very very difficult to find.

Looking for my help.  I had two answers for him…
