With the beginning of the games in Vancouver, I thought I’d see how connected I was…
Hopefully you’ll indulge me in this – it should be a fun exploration.

While I published The LinkedIn Personal Trainer in June of 2007, I re-launched this blog in May of 2008 with a new look. It’s worked well, and readership is doing very well.
But most of you weren’t there in 2008;-)
And I wrote some key articles that I keep referring to, and I thought I’d pull out five for you.

I’ve just got to drop this right out on the blog – I know the article on LinkedIn SEO is “next”, but an exchange I had today on LinkedIn gave me a great boost and I have to share it.
How often do you get invitations to connect from people you’ve never heard of?
Given the subject of my book and blog, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that it happens quite often to me…
But not today – today I received an invitation to build a relationship!

I’ve seen it one too many time…
“By connecting to people I don’t know, I’m expanding my network.”
“We can’t build a relationship unless we connect.”
“Before I used to have sand kicked in my face at the beach, now I’ve got immense muscles – and you can too!”
Ok, this last one has nothing to do with LinkedIn, but it is the sentiment that I’d like to debunk…

Yesterday’s article in the NY Times misses the boat, and I’ve got to call them on it. The shocking suggestion is that networking sites will lead to nepotism. (And by networking sites, they mean ones just like LinkedIn – and since the article only mentions LinkedIn, there’s not much doubt about it…)

The question about when you need to have an email address to invite someone to connect on LinkedIn comes up every little bit.
With an interesting event this week, I thought I’d spend a little time helping you understand when it is necessary.

A connection shared her latest LinkedIn invitation with me this morning – and I was shocked.
You see I had yet to see any real efforts at spam on the site other than those users that ask to mass connect.
Well, it appears the bubble has burst in a “big” way – let me show you the “invitation”…

I keep my eye out for news stories about LinkedIn, and when P.J. Louis asks “What’s Wrong With LinkedIn??” over the weekend, I have to respond!
It seems clear to me that P.J. Doesn’t “get it” yet, and I’d like to offer some unsolicited advice;-)

I’m really excited about creating this program – The Project Solvers and I have developed a workshop on Thursday July 16th for project teams and managers.
Besides the usual questions about how to use LinkedIn, we’ll show participants a tools set that will allow you to run projects effectively through LinkedIn and a few of the additional applications tied into the service.
How can project members communicate across the team?
Is there a way to share project plans and documents?
Can we get feedback from the development community, or the marketplace?
If our project team is scattered across several companies, cities, and continents, how can we setup an environment that lets us all do what we have to do?
All those questions – and more – will be answering for the workshop participants!

Everyone knows by this time that the number of connections for LinkedIn users is displayed as a number from 0 (yes, there are some people on the system with no connections) to 500+.
A reader asked if I could help him determine how many connections someone with more than 500 had and it proved to be an interesting challenge – I thought you might like to see…
